A Morning with the Yahoo! Developer Network in Amman, Jordan…

Yahoo! Jordan Leap

I was always inspired by the Success Story of Maktoob.com, the idea that was started by 2 ambitious persons who wanted to create an email for every Arab, and they did!

Maktoob rapidly grew and served lots and lots of individuals across the arab world, and was ranked among the international #1 websites from the Middle East & Pan Arab Market Share;

Recently Maktoob.com was acquired by Yahoo!   and a legend was now REBORN!

on the 29th of November 2010, the Yahoo! Developer Network, held it’s FIRST event in the Middle East right from the home Country of Maktoob.com in “a Morning with the YDN in Jordan”.

130 Developers attended the half day event and lots of Momentum was created; although the Brand Yahoo! was fairly new to the Developers Community of Jordan, but the Pride of the Success of Maktoob was certainly JORDANIAN.. and with  mixed feelings the Community welcomed the YDN , interacted with its representatives and learned more about the technology that powered Yahoo.com

I had the chance to be among the Co-Organizers of the event and loved it all the way…

Enjoy the Video and See you soon!

What is PRISM? (Interview with Microsoft MVP, Bilal Haidar)

Bilal is a TOP Notch Developer & a Microsoft MVP from Lebanon!

So here’s some little & SIMPLE Developer Tech-Talk that I did with one of the Lebanese Microsoft MVPs a while ago :

What is PRISM?

PRISM is a Composite Application Library that is a guidance provided by Microsoft Patterns & Practices  team to support WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation)  and Silverlight.

it Promotes developing modular applications, where you compose an application out of several modules that get loaded either at startup or on demand.

Each module loads its own UI, and all those modules get composed into a main shell, i.e. Main screen

PRISM provides event aggregation to support communication between diff modules

Prism promotes presentational design patterns such as MVVM through the use of commands, where a command is fired on the UI and gets handled in the view model.

A Big Thank you for Bilal Haidar, we hope to see him in Dev Events more often Smile with tongue out  …

PS: Although Bilal is also a very Confident Public Speaker and Trainer… for some reason, when we were filming the interview… he had some hard time not to laugh Smile with tongue out …. Check out the  MAKING OF Video

Microsoft Office 2010 & VS 2010 Launch in Lebanon!

One last farewell Gift i made for my friends in Microsoft Lebanon, was providing an extra hand in the organization of the Official Launch of Visual Studio 2010 and Office 2010… 2 of my favorite Products Microsoft Ever Made!

We tried to give a Unique way of the Launch so we decided to follow some leads from VS 2010 Launches that happened in the Gulf where they took place by sponsoring a Movie! so in Lebanon, Microsoft invited IT Professionals & Developers from Across several companies to attend a Special Screening of “Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time”.. that was held in Cinema City - CityMall, Wednesday 9th of June at 6:30PM

prince-of-persia-20090723-prince-poster-high-res

We prepared Special Videos that were displayed before the actual film has started, and they were displayed as follows:

1- Introduction (i haven’t upload the Actual Edited One but this is the cool part of it )

2- Prince of Persia – The Game

3- Introduction to Sharepoint 2010 by MSDN Regional Director, Khaled Chebat

4- We knew some people will have little or No CLUE what sharepoint is… so we included this nice video called “Sharepoint in PLAIN ENGLISH!”

5- and off course one of my Master Pieces, the remixed version… Scratch IE

6- Now since /*Life runs on CODE*/… a Special video prepared by Wessam Zeidan and myself to put people in the right MOOD!!

7- SkechFlow (i haven’t found the actual video that was displayed on the net, so here’s another more detailed one on Expression Blend & Sketchflow)

8- A Nice Office 2010 Commercial called “Work Anywhere”

9- A Quick Overview by Ghassan Chahine from Microsoft Lebanon ( Btw he’s the one that replaced me :o) ) introducing the highlights of Office 2010

10- Another Nice Office 2010 Commercial called “Work Better Together”

11- And one Video i really Enjoyed Making… Office 2010 Overview.. by you know who (it’s split into 2 videos because of the 10 minuntes YouTube Limitation)

And Last but Not Least… the Ultimate Office 2010 Movie….

One thing to note though, that we had tried to make several versions of the DVD to be given to the Movie Theater, and we had to compromise on either the Quality of the Videos or the Crop of the HD Videos… so we had to use the HD Version so some videos were cut from each side… so definitely some of the attendees have joked about that…  but that was the best i could come put together in the small timeframe i had to prepare :o)

Enjoy and Don’t forget to SHARE!!
